Understanding the costs involved in administering a deceased estate
This guide details the expenses involved in administering a deceased estate in South Africa. Please note that prices may vary and should be verified with the Master of the High Court.
Master's Fees
The Master of the High Court charges fees based on the estate value:

| R4,000,001 - R6,000,000 | R5,400 |
| R6,000,001 - R8,000,000 | R6,200 |
| Above R8,000,000 | R7,000 (maximum) |
Administration Charges
Executors may claim the following fees:

|---|---|
| Asset Fee | Up to 3.5% (excluding VAT) on gross asset values |
| Collection Commission | 6% of collectible income (rentals, dividends, etc.) |
Note: These fees are regulated and represent the maximum that can be charged.
Appraisal/Valuation Costs
The Master may require a sworn appraiser to value the assets. Appraisal fees are based on prescribed fee structures and may include travel charges calculated on a sliding scale.

Advertising Costs
Executors must publish notices calling for creditor claims:

Security Costs
